The Power of Words

The Power of Words

There are so many articles on the power of words, and I don’t want to re-write the wheel (so to speak) however I do want to put my own personal spin on this as I’ve noticed in my own life that words do have a huge influence over me and other people in my life.

Have you heard of the 5 love languages? If you don’t know what your love language is I encourage you to take the free quiz to find out! It will change the way you relate to everyone in your life.

There are 5 love languages but the one I resonate with very strongly is Words of Affirmation. This means that words hold a huge part in my life and if people are affirming me with their words then I feel loved, so I may hold words at a higher esteem than some but I still feel it’s hugely relevant for all of us.

Words have the power to build up and tear down, especially ourselves! I found that when I was speaking negatively about myself I felt negatively about myself. There were days when I’d look in the mirror and think I was the most disgusting person to ever walk the earth and it wasn’t until I started changing the way I thought about myself that my self worth and esteem improved. I started doing this by looking at myself in the mirror and focusing on an aspect I liked about myself, rather than the things I didn’t like and then the self love flowed from there.

Here at the club we have affirmation cards. These are little reminders that you are enough, that you’re in control of your choices and how you respond to the situations thrown at you in life. Can I encourage you to find the positive affirmations you resonate with that represent where you want to be and speak them over yourself each morning? The simpler the better. Here are some instructions.

•       Start with the words “I am.” (These are the two most powerful words in the English language).

•       Say what you want, not what you don’t want.

•       Keep it short and make it specific.

•       Include at least one emotion or feeling word (use list below).

•       Make affirmations for yourself, not others.
